Winter in the Pacific Northwest brings lots of rain to this coastal region. With that brings high water in the local streams and rivers. Recently the river near my home, the Snoqualmie, flooded to almost record levels. Nearly the entire river valley was under water. It took several days for the waters to recede. During that time we were treated to some gorgeous foggy skies. Thick fog is one thing. That, while still beautiful, is not what I am referring to. This fog was more delicate. It filtered the sun without blocking it out entirely. This gave the most gorgeous and iridescent fog I can recall witnessing. The shafts of light that seemed to wrap around the giant cedar trees seemed to sparkle like an opal.
