Title
Hawaiian IIwi Bird and Ohia Lehua Flower
Artist
K Whitworth
Medium
Painting - Oil
Description
I love the texture of the fuzzy Ohia Lehua blossoms. They are such a contrast to the firm round leaves. Throw in a matching Iiwi (Pronounced: ee-EE-vee) bird and what a pretty sight it makes! :)
When fiery volcanic forces leave the Hawaiian landscape gray and barren it is the Ohia Lehua tree that is first to return. To see this plant not only survive but prosper in this largely inhospitable environment inspires hope. Here an Iiwi bird poses brilliantly as it balances on a flowering Ohia branch.

I've never seen any paintings of Hawaii with painted with more passion. combine that with your delicate handling of painted birds and we have a modern masterpiece. BRAVO!!
K Whitworth replied:
Talya, Thank you so much for that. It is a place I hold very dear to me. Painting scenes from there is like taking mini vacations. :) A very special place. Your words are so appreciated. Mahalo! :)
